We can make the biggest difference in Africa in Ethiopia.
Famine, malaria, and other diseases have claimed untold thousands of lives in Ethiopia. HIV/AIDS alone has orphaned an estimated 800,000 children. Thirteen percent of Ethiopia’s children are missing one or both parents, an estimated 6 million children.
Government aid to help orphans is limited. The burden of care falls primarily upon extended family. Ethiopia is at a breaking point. Children wander the streets. They must fight to keep themselves and other family members alive. They are without basic health care, nutrition, education, and often face sexual exploitation. While some economic, educational, and medical advances have been made, it remains fragile and tenuous for children.
We have a chance to change and save lives in Ethiopia—now. Now is the time for a compassionate and merciful response to the plight of Ethiopia’s orphans. God has set before us an opportunity to help the helpless and show mercy to children in such great need.
