God has already supplied people in both the U.S. and Ethiopia with the expertise and commitment to oversee this effort and construct Acacia Village. Ground-breaking for the first phase of Acacia Village was on January 20, 2008. The overhead and operations of this facility, including staff, food and other consumables, will be approximately $140,000 per year and will be funded through adoption fees. Christian World Foundation has already seeded the project with $300,000. And now Christian World Foundation is launching a capital campaign to raise the $4 million needed to complete Acacia Village.
Why should I help?
Seldom in life are we provided with an occasion to change or save a life. For the most part, we live each day in the moment — worried about the next bill or the next email or the next task. But Acacia Village provides the opportunity to be involved in a personal way with changing the lives of children — one at a time.
In the same way that acacia trees provide shelter — Acacia Village will be a sheltering presence for women and children — every day. Acacia Village provides the best opportunity change lives — there is no greater impact you can make.
Difficult economic circumstances in the U.S. do not remove our responsibility as world citizens to help those in need. Instead, we are called to make sure our dollars are truly used to make a difference.
We currently rent space in Ethiopia for children’s homes, but there are no laws to protect us as renters. We must pay a year’s lease up front, pay for the improvements to the property and then we can be asked to leave at any time. In addition, our rent can be doubled at any time.
With Acacia Village, we are able to provide a permanent, stable presence for children and save over $15 million in the next 20 years. During this time we will serve twice as many children as opposed to continuing to rent. From a prospective of good stewardship, we cannot afford not to build Acacia Village.
Acacia Village’s impact is threefold:
- Acacia Village rescues children from the streets of Ethiopia and connects them with a forever family;
- Acacia Village provides employment for over 100 Ethiopian citizens, thus providing opportunity to improve their lives;
- Acacia Village helps U.S. adoptive parents by easing the transition of a child from Ethiopia to the United States.
With Acacia Village, you can help build the property and then go to Ethiopia to see how children are being saved. This project enables you to participate in the vision and then witness firsthand the fulfillment of the dream.
When Jesus stood among 5,000 people, the disciples encouraged him to send them away. "How can we feed these people with just a few loaves and fish?" they said. But Jesus refused to be overwhelmed by the problem — He refused to look at what they could not do. Instead, He took the food that was there, blessed it and multiplied it to feed thousands (see Luke 9:12-20).
As we build Acacia Village, we trust Jesus will do the same — not according to our efforts, but by the grace of God. Jesus says again, "Do not send the people away. Bring what you have to Me and I will bless it and multiply it."
Now is the time to stop being overwhelmed by the immensity of the problem. Now is the time to help. You can change and save lives in these ways:
- PRAY for the children of Ethiopia and for the funding of Acacia Village;
- HOST a gathering to benefit Acacia Village in your home or church;
- DONATE one time or pledge over three years to help fund a room or a building at Acacia Village.
